When placing an order, specify the mount model and the panel size (for example: UPM 10X "A", or SOP-Y "C"). Also, we will want to know the quantity and type of panels you will be using just to be sure the sizing is correct. Mounting post to be supplied by customer. All post sizes refer to " A53 Schedule" pipe. If you want to upgrade to a larger sized post than the standard size listed, please inquire.

There are new modules on the market all the time with different wattage, mounting hole spacing, and frame dimensions. This chart gives an approximate guideline of how many modules fit on our mounts. If you find that you have a panel that has wattage specified in one size category, and dimensions that fit in a different size category, go with the mount that fits the dimensions of the panel.

To calculate square footage of your module, multiply frame width by frame height (in inches) and divide that by 144. This will equal your panel square footage. NOTE: millimeters divided by 25.4 = inches.

Again, when placing an order, specify the mount model and the panel size (for example: UPM 6X Custom "B", or S-Rail Single "C"). Also, we will need to know the quantity and type of panels you will be using and to see the tech drawing on the spec sheet just to be sure the sizing is correct.

All mounting poles for post mounts are to be supplied by customer – note size required.
Post mounts are built to go on " A53 Schedule" pipe. This is the most common type of pipe in this country and is readily available in most steel yards. The Outside Diameter of the pipe is larger then the Schedule size indicates. The OD is the critical measurement for our sockets to fit correctly on the mounting post.

Footnote 1: There is not adequate clearance for these arrays with this size pipe. Use heavier schedule pipe or larger pipe diameter.

NOTE: We do not recommend tilting past 65° without using the optional 90° bracket kit. This kit fastens the array to the pole below the tee top which is the safest and strongest possible attachment for the 90° vertical position. Most mounts do not need to be tilted past 65° unless they are in far north latitudes or in areas with high snow loads (anything over 1’).

At a minimum, failure will result in costly damage to the PV modules. Your building department may require the foundation for a PV array post mount to be designed by a structural engineer licensed in the state where the PV array is to be erected. This is required because failure of a post mount foundation may be a threat to the safety of people and property in it’s proximity. At a minimum, failure will result in costly damage to the PV modules. The foundation described here is suitable for most soil types, but no warranty of it’s suitability for your particular soil or wind conditions is offered or implied.

If you are unable to dig holes of these dimensions because you encounter bed rock or if you have very loamy or loose sandy soil, (get the recommendation of a soil engineer or building department), then you may have to seek a design for an alternative foundation construction.

Pipe Diameter and Thickness Guidelines

All our post mounts are built to go on " A53 Schedule" pipe. This is the most common type of pipe in this country and is most readily available in steel yards. Schedule 40 is the thinnest wall, schedle 80 is thicker, and sched 120 thicker still etc etc. Somewhere along the line in pipe history someone decided that they would use Sched 40 as the nominal inside diameter which makes all the outside diameters on all the pipe sizes different so here is the rundown:

All dimensions are OUTSIDE DIAMETER and are the same for all Schedule pipe (40, 80 etc):

4" schedule pipe — 4 1/2" OD
5"schedule pipe — 5 9/16" OD
6" schedule pipe — 6 5/8" OD
